Bechtler Museum of Modern Art located in Charlotte, NC is a new 36,634 SF arts facility. This facility considered an “architectural gem” because of its fourth-floor exhibit space cantilevered over Uptown Charlotte’s First Street Plaza and a 45-foot spherical “super column” that supports the weight of the buildings extensions. It is the first building in the Southeast to use a specific type of cladding system giving it a distinctive terra cotta exterior. This facility consists of a glass entrance, ground floor museum store and café with an exhibition area, two second floor classrooms, exhibition space and outdoor sculpture garden/courtyard area with city view. Spectrum provided the interior metal framing and exterior framing systems, drywall and acoustical ceilings.
